Case study
An ultra-rapid charging hub for the M5 northbound carriageway at Gloucester Services.
Gigawatt Industries, with Evolt, delivered a full turnkey ultra-rapid charging installation on the northbound side of Westmorland's Gloucester Services on the M5, a standalone hub engineered for one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country.
The scope covered all civil and electrical works for the carriageway: seven 150kW charge points, their power units, an LV feeder pillar, and the cabling and groundworks to tie it together, installed with minimal disruption to a live, high-footfall services operation.
One of a pair, its sister hub sits across the carriageway on the southbound side.
The northbound hub was built in parallel with the southbound installation across the M5. Together the two sites add 5.6MW of capacity and 14 ultra-rapid charge points to the corridor between junctions 11A and 12, giving drivers a rapid top-up whichever way they're travelling.
