From the Tools to Electrical Operations Manager: Ash's Story

Where it started: building the foundations in rail

Before Gigawatt, Ash spent years working as an electrical installer in the railway industry, gaining experience under the same leadership he now works with today. Rail was demanding, fast-moving, and uncompromising on standards.

That environment shaped how Ash works today: turn up prepared, get stuck in, and take pride in doing the job properly. When rail work began to slow down, the move into EV wasn't about chasing a promotion or a new title. It was about applying the same work ethic and standards to a growing sector.

Joining Gigawatt: on the tools from day one

Ash joined Gigawatt in January 2022, right at the beginning of the journey. The role was hands-on from day one: installing domestic EV chargers, working long days, problem-solving on site, and ensuring every installation met the highest standard.

Ash quickly became the person people turned to when something wasn't going to plan, the one "in the know." In a growing company, that kind of reliability matters.

Taking the next step: leadership through consistency

Over time, Ash moved into a team leader role. The focus on quality never changed but the scope did. Now it wasn't just about completing installations. It was about supporting others, coordinating workloads, and keeping projects on track.

There wasn't one dramatic breakthrough moment. Progress came through consistency: turning up every day, staying on top of the detail, and making sure nothing slipped. That level of ownership builds trust. And trust leads to opportunity.

The biggest transition: moving into the office

Recently, Ash stepped into the role of Electrical Operations Manager, coming off the tools around December 2025. It's a significant shift, less time installing, more time coordinating and overseeing the bigger picture. The role is now roughly 75% desk-based and 25% on site, with responsibilities including:

• Keeping jobs running smoothly from start to finish
• Ordering and managing materials
• Coordinating logistics and project close-outs
• Supporting field teams day to day

Ash is open about the fact that it's a learning curve. And that's what makes the story real. Progression isn't about having everything figured out. It's about being willing to step into something new, adapt quickly, and keep improving.

Looking ahead

Ash is already thinking about the next stage: completing a Level 4 design qualification so electrical designs can be brought in-house in the future for Gigawatt. That forward-thinking mindset is exactly what we want to encourage.
